Beneficiation Works of Santa Clara Convent and Church awarded to Tecnovia Madeira

On March 25, 2019, the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture (SRTC) of the Regional Government of Madeira awarded TECNOVIA MADEIRA with the contract for the “Global Improvement of Visible Areas of the Church and the Convent of Santa Clara“, for the overall price of €1,147,800.00 (one million, one hundred forty-seven thousand and eight hundred euros), which will be added to the VAT at the legal rate in force.

Located in Funchal, Santa Clara Church and Convent  is one of the most important testimonies of the cultural and historical heritage of Madeira, and has been classified as a national monument since 1940. Built in the Manueline period, XV, in late Gothic style, this monument underwent profound artistic and architectural transformations in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in the baroque period.

The project provides for the overall improvement of the Church and Convent of Santa Clara, as regards the constructive and architectural elements of the buildings and spaces integrated in the new tour circuit, as well as the conservation and restoration of the artistic heritage, namely painting, carving, sculpture and tiles.

The rigorous survey of the existing pathologies in the architectural and constructive elements allowed to define the recovery, rehabilitation and restoration project, as well as the new visiting circuit that will integrate spaces currently not accessible to the public, areas for exhibition, technical reserve areas, areas of public support, with the creation of accessibility conditions for people with disabilities.

In addition to the architectural design of the buildings and spaces, the project also includes the lighting project of the building and its exterior and interior spaces, the remodeling project of the electrical and telecommunications installations, the security project and the reinforcement project of wooden floors for the exhibition areas.

The complexity of the interventions to be carried out and the characteristics of the property, greatly condition the project, thus the programming will be carried out in close coordination with the restoration technicians, taking into account the priorities and constraints resulting from the restoration of the artistic heritage and spaces to be rehabilitated.

This intervention will guarantee the safeguarding of this classified cultural heritage.

Tecnovia Madeira welcomes this challenge where it will reinforce its construction, rehabilitation, requalification and restoration skills of historic buildings.
