Pico Vineyards: Tecnovia Açores delivers flagship tourism project on Pico Island

Located in the parish of Bandeiras, in the municipality of Madalena on Pico Island, the Pico Vineyards tourism village stands out as a reference in the Azores’ rural tourism offering. Nestled in the cultural landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard – classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – this development combines comfort, authenticity and a deep connection to the territory.

Tecnovia Açores was responsible for the execution of the expansion and requalification works, enhancing the site’s capacity and functionality while preserving its traditional character. The result is a tourism destination that offers visitors a unique and memorable stay on one of the most remarkable islands in the Azores archipelago.

Traditional architecture with contemporary solutions

Respecting the island’s architectural identity, the project preserved and integrated typical local elements such as basalt masonry and pitched roofs. These were complemented with modern construction techniques and materials, ensuring both comfort and durability.

The intervention ensured that the built environment remained in harmony with the natural landscape, creating a welcoming, serene and high-quality setting that meets the expectations of discerning travellers.

New infrastructures for a complete tourism experience

The expansion of Pico Vineyards included the construction of several new buildings and leisure areas, namely:

  • 5 villas with private swimming pools

  • 6 tourist apartments

  • 1 wine tasting room

  • 1 main building with bar and restaurant

  • 1 SPA with heated indoor pool

  • 1 outdoor pool

  • 1 technical support building

These new facilities reinforce the region’s tourism offering by combining rural charm with premium services and infrastructure, while promoting enotourism and sustainable development.

Engineering that contributes to regional development

The involvement of Tecnovia Açores in this project reflects the company’s commitment to the sustainable development of the Azores Autonomous Region, through works that respect heritage, support the local economy and enhance the region’s attractiveness.

Pico Vineyards is today a successful example of how engineering and construction can contribute to the long-term growth of sustainable, quality tourism in the Azores.
