Tecnovia Angola drives sustainability in the Zaire province
The expansion of the Soyo landfill capacity is one of Tecnovia Angola’s most recent projects. Through the construction of three new domestic waste storage cells (DOMs) and four new contaminated waste storage cells (TDUs), we have managed to double the capacity of the local landfill. This achievement reaffirms our commitment to sustainable waste management.
The work includes the installation of thermal desorption (TDU) units, essential technologies for the treatment of contaminated waste. These units are crucial to ensuring that the landfill meets environmental standards.
Expansion of waste disposal cells
There are currently seven cells on site for waste disposal (three DOM cells and four TDU cells). The new project aims to further expand the landfill’s capacity with the construction of six additional waste disposal cells, divided as follows:
- Three cells for hazardous waste (TDU);
- 3 cells for domestic waste (DOM);
Scope of work and environmental benefits
The expansion work includes a series of essential activities to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of the landfill. The general scope of the work covers:
- Deforestation, stripping and earthworks: deforestation, soil removal and all earthworks necessary for the construction of the 3 additional hazardous waste cells (TDU) and 3 additional domestic waste cells (DOM);
- Construction of ramps and accesses to the facilities;
- Application of HDPE screens (geomembrane) in the hazardous and domestic waste cells – supply of material;
- Application of geotextile in the hazardous and domestic waste cells – supply of material;
- Leachate collection systems for hazardous and domestic waste cells.
Commitment to a more sustainable future
This expansion not only aims to increase the landfill’s capacity, but also to improve waste management efficiency and minimise the environmental impact on the region.
At Tecnovia Angola, we are “Crescemos a Fazer” Soyo more sustainable.
