Capacity increase on the IP8 (A26) on the Roncão/Grândola Norte section awarded to a consortium including Tecnovia
Tecnovia, in consortium with JJR, was awarded the contract for the capacity expansion works on the IP8 (A26) section between Roncão and Grândola Norte (IC1), promoted by IP – Infraestruturas de Portugal, S.A.
The project, representing an investment of €66.8 million, forms part of the Sines–A2 corridor and constitutes a strategic intervention to enhance mobility and connectivity in the central-southern region of Portugal.
Widening and modernisation of critical infrastructure
The works involve the widening of the existing IP8 (A26) alignment between the Relvas Verdes junction and the junction with the IC1 at Grândola Norte, upgrading the road to a dual carriageway standard (2×2 lanes). This intervention will increase the capacity of the infrastructure, improve traffic conditions and enhance road safety.
The section under construction extends over 21.4 kilometres and includes the reconfiguration of three junctions and two slip roads at the IC1 roundabout, ensuring a more efficient connection between different segments of the road network.
Impact on regional accessibility
The project will significantly improve accessibility to the Port of Sines, one of Portugal’s major ports, facilitating the movement of goods and passengers. The increased capacity of the route will help reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and support the economic development of the region.
Technical capability and delivery of strategic infrastructure
For Tecnovia, the execution of this project within the national road infrastructure network reinforces its ability to deliver highly complex engineering works and confirms its commitment to developing mobility solutions of strategic importance to the country.
