Tecnovia delivers Terceira Island’s first Pingo Doce store

Tecnovia has completed the construction of the first Pingo Doce store on Terceira Island, in the Avenidas area of Angra do Heroísmo. With a total built area of approximately 5,000 sqm, the project brings a new retail destination to the city and reinforces Tecnovia’s track record in delivering significant projects across the Azores.

A new landmark for Angra do Heroísmo

Set in a strategic location in Angra do Heroísmo, the new building combines functionality, modern design and integration with its urban surroundings.

The development comprises approximately 5,000 sqm of built area, including 1,500 sqm of retail space, designed to meet the operational demands of a modern food retail environment while providing a convenient and welcoming experience for customers.

Beyond its physical scale, the project is also making a tangible contribution to the local economy. The new store has created 86 jobs and strengthened the range of retail and services available on Terceira Island.

Its connection to the Azores is also reflected in its supply chain, with 101 regional suppliers, including 19 producers based on Terceira, contributing to the store’s offering.

From construction to a space for the community

Following the completion of construction, the store officially opened its doors at an inauguration attended by representatives of the organisations involved in the project and regional guests.

Among those present were Artur Lima, Vice-President of the Regional Government of the Azores, and João Guilherme Canas da Costa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tecnovia Açores, together with other members of the Tecnovia Açores team.

The inauguration marked the transition from construction project to a fully operational space that is now part of everyday life in Angra do Heroísmo.

Designed around everyday needs

The new store brings together a wide range of retail and food services under one roof. Alongside dedicated fresh produce and grocery areas, it features ready-to-eat food, takeaway services, a café and bakery, as well as a 107-seat restaurant serving freshly prepared meals every day.

The result is a modern, functional and versatile space designed to serve the needs of residents and visitors alike.

Strengthening Pingo Doce’s presence in the Azores

The new store is part of the partnership between Grupo Finançor and Grupo Jerónimo Martins in the Autonomous Region of the Azores and marks Pingo Doce’s arrival on Terceira Island. The brand is now present across five islands in the archipelago through Grupo Finançor.

For Tecnovia, this project represents another important addition to its portfolio in the Azores, reflecting the company’s technical expertise, knowledge of the territory and ability to deliver projects designed for the communities they serve.

Now fully operational, the building has become part of the urban fabric of Angra do Heroísmo, contributing to local economic activity and creating a new destination for the people of Terceira.
