Tecnovia celebrates Uganda Independence Day by participating in the Mubende Corporate Independence Sports Gala

Tecnovia Uganda took part in the Mubende Corporate Independence Sports Gala 2026 on 9 October, a sporting event organised by the Mubende Corporate Club that brought together companies and institutions from various sectors to celebrate the 64th anniversary of Uganda’s independence. The event provided an opportunity to strengthen team spirit, build new connections and reinforce ties with the local community.

Sports and camaraderie during the Independence celebrations

On 9 October, Uganda commemorates the independence it achieved in 1962 in a celebration of unity and national identity.

As part of these celebrations, Tecnovia Uganda accepted the invitation to take part in a football tournament held at St. Peter’s Technical Institute in Mubende, one of the districts covered by the Lusalira–Nkonge–Lumegere–Ssembabule road project (97 km).

Tecnovia Uganda on the pitch

At an event that brought together around 14 teams, Tecnovia was represented by 13 employees from different departments, including 2 female players. Over the course of the day, the team played three matches.

United by their passion for football and pride in wearing the Tecnovia colours, the participants embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and a determination to give their best on the pitch. Neither the rain, which fell at times during the tournament, nor the fatigue built up over the course of the day could dampen the team’s motivation.

In the end, more than the results on the pitch, what remained were the moments shared between colleagues and the opportunity to engage with the local community, as two of the participants reflected:

“While the game results didn’t go our way, we walked away injury-free, tighter as a unit, and super proud to represent Tecnovia. We were able to meet a lot of other organizations, and the MC kept highlighting Tecnovia’s presence throughout the day. He encouraged people to approach us with any questions they might have about the road. Overall, I think it was a great engagement for us as Team Tecnovia and helped us integrate more into the community.” – Derrick Akampa, Design Manager

“The outing was great for the entire team, as we got exposure and had the chance to socialize with other workmates away from our busy work schedules.” – Oscar Azookire, Health & Safety Officer

Building relationships

Tecnovia’s participation in this event reinforces its commitment to remaining close to communities, supporting local initiatives and valuing Uganda’s national identity.

At the same time, memories were made, bonds were strengthened, and fundamental values that underpin teamwork, such as unity and cooperation among colleagues, were fostered.
