Project Description

The incorporation of rubber into bituminous mixtures represents a solution that combines sustainability and superior technical performance, resulting in more resilient and durable materials. As this is an innovative technology, the Laboratory developed the necessary studies and correlations to understand the behaviour of this mixture in real application conditions.

In addition to the usual controls during execution — granulometric analysis, core extraction, macrotexture determination — we collaborated directly with the designer in developing an appropriate methodology for determining the binder percentage, considering that rubber behaves differently from conventional bitumen. The testing programme also included the evaluation of resistance to fatigue and permanent deformation, parameters that were significantly improved by the presence of rubber in the composition.
