Characterisation of airport pavements in Cape Verde

Project Description

Following the identification of various problems in airport pavements, we were asked to investigate the morphology of the structures and diagnose the anomalies in the existing layers.

In partnership with Tecnovia Cabo Verde, we developed a comprehensive testing programme that included 46 load tests to determine the bearing capacity of the pavements, as well as a complete characterisation of the soils through consistency limits and SPT tests. The extraction of 61 cores from the bituminous layers allowed us to reconstruct the layout and construction history of the pavements, providing essential data for defining appropriate technical solutions.
