National Monument to Democracy and Freedom

Tecnovia Cabo Verde is executing the construction of the National Monument to Democracy and Freedom, located on National Road EN1-ST-06 (Achada Grande Frente Roundabout), on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde.

A major national project

The National Monument to Democracy and Freedom, which will be installed at the Achada Grande Frente roundabout in the city of Praia, represents a significant investment of 150 million escudos (€1,360,359.13) and is scheduled for completion in seven months.

This project is financed through a public-private partnership and is a key element in the cultural and urban enhancement of the Cape Verdean capital.

Innovative architectural concept

The monument has a contemporary and symbolic design, consisting of a sculpture representing the national flag through undulating metal pieces. The work incorporates special lighting technology that enhances its beauty both during the day and at night.

The project symbolises the union of the ten islands of Cape Verde, represented by the stars on the national flag, materialised through LED light rings strategically inserted into gaps in the metal pieces. The composition is complemented by sophisticated lighting that highlights the reflections in a mirror of water from a surrounding artificial lake.

Socio-economic and urban impact

In addition to its symbolic and cultural value, the Monument to Democracy and Freedom is part of a broader strategy to upgrade the region’s road infrastructure. The project aims to boost the socio-economic dynamics of the area, contributing to the modernisation and urban enhancement of the capital.

Tecnovia Cabo Verde, with its experience in civil construction and public works projects, is committed to delivering a landmark project that honours the democratic values and freedom of the Cape Verdean people, consolidating itself as an architectural and cultural landmark in the capital’s urban landscape.
