Tecnovia expands TAP’s Hangar 6 at Lisbon Airport

Tecnovia was responsible for the expansion of TAP Air Portugal’s main maintenance hangar at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon. The new multi-purpose facility has a floor area of approximately 9,500 m² and is dedicated to the maintenance of the airline’s aircraft.

Strategic infrastructure for aviation

The expanded Hangar 6 has the capacity to house up to four aircraft simultaneously, strengthening TAP M&E’s operations in the maintenance of aircraft, engines and auxiliary power units (APUs).

For Luís Rodrigues, CEO of TAP, the project reinforces the company’s commitment to the development of the maintenance sector, “an area with enormous growth potential and capable of generating significant value for the company. This new facility will enable additional operations that are not currently possible, bringing great value to maintenance.”

A platform equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure

The Hangar 6 expansion project included a modern, multi-purpose platform equipped with:

  • Sewerage and drainage networks
  • Firefighting system
  • Full apron lighting
  • External power supply system for aircraft
  • Water, compressed air and electricity supply points installed in pits in the tarmac
  • Sliding gate with jet deflector

Inclusion in the airport expansion plan

This initiative formed part of the expansion plan for Humberto Delgado Airport, which aims to ensure optimal operating conditions until the opening of Luís de Camões Airport at the Alcochete Firing Range, estimated to take place in the next decade.

For Tecnovia, participation in this project of national importance represented an opportunity to apply specialised technical expertise to a strategic infrastructure for the aviation sector in Portugal.
