Tecnopolo – MARTEC, a Milestone in Research and Science in Azores
Tecnovia Açores, in consortium, will build the Tecnopolo – MARTEC, an experimental research and development centre focused on the sea, on the island of Faial. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the scientific and economic progress of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) funds the project, which is estimated to cost approximately 22 million euros. This represents a decisive step in strengthening the Azores’ strategic role in ocean studies and promoting ocean sustainability.
The Tecnopolo – MARTEC will include the construction of three essential areas:
- Blue Incubator: An innovative space covering 6,564.59 m², promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in the maritime sector.
- Aquaculture Center: Spanning 2,455.05 m², it will serve as an excellence centre for research and development in aquaculture.
- Laboratories of the Azores Marine Park: A 170.23 m² space designed to house the management team of the Marine Park, strengthening the conservation and sustainable management of the region’s marine ecosystem.
