Tecnovia awarded with the railway platform expansion of Terminal XXI of Sines Port

Tecnovia S.A was awarded by PSA Sines, concessionaire of the Terminal XXI of the Port of Sines, the works of “Construction of platform of support to the Rail Yard and its marginal retentions / Installation of two loading / unloading lines for compositions of 750 meters length at PSA Sines’ Terminal XXI.

The project includes the construction of two new railway lines with capacity for trains up to 750 m, doubling the number of existing lines.

In parallel, another three hectares of park will be built for containers, thus increasing the capacity of the rail yard.

At the end of the project, scheduled for April 2019, two new loading / unloading lines will be built, with a useful length of 710 meters, and the platform will be prepared to receive, in the future, the installation of three more railway lines.

The main works consist of:

○ Demolitions

○ Earth movement and maritime retention

○ Construction of pavements

○ Construction of railway lines

○ Construction of drainage and water supply infrastructures

○ Construction of medium and low voltage electrical and telecommunications  infrastructure networks.

○ Pavement painting and signaling equipment

The approximately 430 000 tonnes of rocky and granular materials needed to construct the marginal protections, landfills and pavements come from the Pedreira de Monte-Chãos belonging to the Administration of the Port of Sines (APS), which is being operated by Tecnovia in the scope of this project.

This project, which is of enormous importance in the Terminal XXI Expansion Plan of the Port of Sines, will allow the increase in the capacity to respond to the continuous growth of the container movement by rail, improving the conditions of storage, circulation and operation of the railway terminal.
