Sustainability in Road Paving: Tecnovia Discusses the Future at UBI
Tecnovia took part in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) to participate in the seminar “Sustainability and Innovation in Road Pavement Engineering”. The event brought together experts, academics and companies in the sector to debate the future of transport infrastructure.
Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction
As part of the afternoon panel, Eng. Pedro Nunes (Tecnovia) delivered a presentation entitled “Low-emission fuels for the production of asphalt mixtures”. The presentation was based on the concept “Cutting Costs, Cutting Carbon, Building Tomorrow”, demonstrating how the energy transition in asphalt plants is a fundamental pillar for sustainability. Real comparative data was presented, showing the benefits of replacing Fuel Oil with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Natural Gas.
Data that makes the difference
During the session, Tecnovia highlighted its leadership as the first company in Portugal to obtain verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for its asphalt mixtures. Among the technical conclusions presented, it was emphasised that the combination of warm-mix asphalt (WMA) with the use of LPG and the incorporation of recycled material enables a reduction of up to 64% in Global Warming Potential (GWPₜ) compared to traditional solutions.
In addition to the environmental goal, it was demonstrated that these solutions also ensure economic sustainability, maintaining or reducing production costs while ensuring the technical performance of the pavement.
This participation in the seminar reinforces Tecnovia’s commitment to innovation and to sharing knowledge with academia, which are essential pillars of our growth strategy.
