Description

Carried out between March 2010 and March 2011 for EDM – Empresa de Desenvolvimento Mineiro, this project consisted of cleaning up and recovering an old polymetallic sulfide solids excavation site in Lousal.

In the course of rehabilitating the site, measures were taken to minimise environmental impact, such as the treatment of leachate water, re-profiling and the inclusion of systems to separate contaminated water from uncontaminated water, such as rainwater or runoff. The natural surroundings were also recovered, with the purpose of promoting the potential of the old Lousal mines for tourism, museological, educational and recreational activities.
