PICO
The Tecnovia Açores industrial facilities at Meio Mundo, in Santa Luzia, are located approximately 10 km from Vila de S. Roque and 8 km from Vila da Madalena, on the island of Pico.
These facilities produce basaltic aggregates, ready-mix concrete, precast concrete and bituminous mixtures, which have been used in various infrastructure works carried out in Pico.
The Meio Mundo facility has a centre for collecting, recycling and sorting construction and demolition waste – CDW – which is operated by Tecnovia Ambiente.
Production and quality control are performed by the Tecnovia Açores laboratory in compliance with the applicable testing standards.
The quality management systems at Meio Mundo are NP EN ISO 9001 certified, and the aggregates and bituminous mixtures bear CE marking in compliance with harmonised product standards.
The office, laboratory and workshop which support Tecnovia Açores operations on the island of Pico are located near Vila da Madalena.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
The Meio Mundo quarry extracts basalt with excellent properties for the production of aggregates, for use in civil engineering, namely in paving and surfacing, ready-mix concrete, precast concrete, micro-agglomerates and bituminous mixtures.
The available grain sizes are predetermined, but other types can be produced upon request. Performance measurements are provided upon request.

The Meio Mundo bituminous mixtures plant produces various types of hot bituminous mixtures for use in roads, airports or other heavy-duty surfaces.
The Meio Mundo plant produces a predetermined range of bituminous mixtures, and performance measurements are provided upon request.

The Meio Mundo concrete plant produces concrete of all strength, exposure and consistency classses, mortars, lightweight aggregate concrete, pigmented concrete and concrete with a prescribed composition, to meet the requirements of our clients, contract work and the legal framework in force.
The fleet of concrete mixers and concrete pumps at this plant is scaled according to production needs.
The sorting and recycling centre for construction and demolition waste – CDW – operated by Tecnovia Ambiente on the island of Pico is licensed to process various types of waste. Please consult the documentation tab for the licence permit listing the waste this facility can process, and the respective ELW codes.
This centre rents containers with a capacity of 6 m3 to package and transport waste, in compliance with the legislation in force, and also offers technical advisory services regarding waste management.
The company is qualified to issue technical opinions regarding the removal of asbestos-bearing waste.
The Madalena laboratory performs production and quality control for the products produced at the Meio Mundo industrial facility, and acts in support of contract work by testing soils, aggregates, concrete and bituminous mixtures, in compliance with the testing standards or technical specifications in force.
