SÃO JORGE
Tecnovia Azores operates three quarries on the island of São Jorge, from which it obtains stone to produce aggregates, riprap and TOT.
At the industrial facility in Queimada, on São Jorge, Tecnovia Azores extracts basalt from the Queimada quarry to produce aggregates, and also produces ready-mix concrete, bituminous mixtures and precast concrete for maritime contracts. This industrial facility also has a centre for collecting, recycling and sorting construction and demolition waste – CDW, which is operated by Tecnovia Ambiente.
Tecnovia Azores also exploits two other basalt quarries in São Jorge, the Pico da Calheta quarry and the Urzelina quarry, to obtain large riprap and TOT, which are mainly used for maritime projects.
Production and quality control is performed by the Tecnovia Azores laboratory in compliance with applicable testing standards.
Quality management systems are NP EN ISO 9001 certified. Aggregates and bituminous mixtures bear CE marking in accordance with product standards.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
The Queimada quarry extracts basalt with excellent qualities for the production of aggregates.
The various types of aggregates produced are suitable for use in construction and civil engineering, namely in flooring, ready-mix concrete, precast concrete, micro-agglomerates and bituminous mixtures.
The grain sizes of available aggregates are predetermined, and performance measurements are provided upon request.

The Queimada bituminous mixtures plant produces hot mix asphalt for use in roads, airports or other heavy-duty surfaces.
The various types of bituminous mixtures produced at the plant are predetermined, and performance measurements are available upon request.

The Queimada concrete plant produces concrete of all strength, exposure and consistency classes, mortars, lightweight aggregate concrete, pigmented concrete and concrete with a prescribed composition, to meet the requirements of our clients and contract work.
Additional resources at this concrete plant, such as concrete mixers and concrete pumps, are scaled according to production needs.
The sorting and recycling centre for construction and demolition waste – CDW – operated by Tecnovia Ambiente on the island of São Jorge is licensed to process various types of CDW.

The company is qualified to issue technical opinions regarding the removal of asbestos-bearing waste.
The industrial facility at Queimada has a quality control laboratory, equipped with all the technical and human resources required to test soils, aggregates, concrete, and bituminous mixtures in compliance with the testing standards and technical specifications in force.
The laboratory performs production and quality control for the products produced at this plant.
